DOWNTOWN PUBLIC BENCHES

Another often overlooked way to make downtown more interesting is the use of unusual benches. While most communities seem determined to conform to the appearances of other communities, there are numerous examples of public seating that will get used and be memorable.    It is up to individual downtowns as to what they are trying to convey to their residents and visitors.    Unique benches will draw people downtown to look, take pictures and otherwise interact.   Tinley Park is a community in Illinois that went all out with this concept, they are certainly worth googling.   Here are just a few examples of memorable public benches from various locations:

ELECTRICAL POWER LINES

While most communities don't have major electrical power lines going through their downtowns, some communities do.   While it is unlikely you will be able to convince the local electric utility to trade out traditional towers for something like this...



On rare occasion, owners of existing towers have allowed for some manner of artwork to be incorporated into the structure:   Bottom line; it doesn't hurt to ask.
